Pallet Racking Overview

Pallet racking

Heavy duty pallet racking systems have evolved over the years through an in-depth examination of storage and handling techniques.

Pallet Racking is available in far too many heights / widths / depths to list but the most commonly used for storage of standard 1.2m wide x 1m deep pallets are 2.7m wide beams and 900mm deep frames with the beams spaced in the height to suit your pallet height plus 75-100mm.

Adjustable But Strong & Rigid

Racking Beams can be removed and repositioned when changes in the use of the racking occur. Although Pallet racking is adjustable, once the beams are slotted into position in the frame uprights, an inter-locking structure of great strength and rigidity is maintained.

Each beam is supplied complete with a pair of steel Safety Locking Pins. When located they ensure the beam is correctly positioned and help prevent the beam being dislodged during use.

Pallet Racking Beams and Frames

Adjustable beam pallet racking

Standard configuration Pallet racking is easily installed, cost-effective and versatile; it is the most widely used of pallet storage systems and allows direct access to each pallet stored.

The basic components comprise of pallet racking frames (2 per starter bay and 1 per extension bay) and pallet racking beams (1 pair per shelf level inc 4 safety locking pins), they are available in a wide range of sizes and duties / capacities, Pallet racking can be configured to meet your needs in terms of load volume and weight, accessibility, handling requirements and space utilisation and can even be used to form multi tier structures / racking floors.

Pallet racking in its standard form provides safe, cost-effective storage for many different kinds of goods and materials. But for increased versatility Palletstor also offers a range of practical accessories to make the storage and handling even easier.

Narrow Aisle Racking

Narrow aisle racking

By allowing fork lift trucks to operate in aisles up to half the width required in conventional adjustable beam pallet racking, Narrow Aisle Pallet Racking makes excellent use of floor space and maximises the height at which goods can be stacked.

Using specialised lift trucks in either 'man-down' or 'man-up' variants, narrow aisle racking is precision designed for safe, efficient load handling within the tight confines of these space-efficient aisles.

Guide rails or wires are fitted at floor level to ensure precise positioning of trucks. This improves safety, whilst minimising the risk of accidental damage to a rack as well as improving the speed and accuracy of pallet handling.

Double Deep Pallet Racks

Double-deep racking

A variant on standard adjustable beam racking, Double deep Pallet Racking, as the name implies, allows pallets to be stored two deep but still accessible from the same aisle. By reducing the number of access aisles and using the space saved to accommodate additional racks, this configuration provides a highly space-efficient pallet storage system.

Although the speed of access to some of the pallet positions is restricted, with an efficient stock management system this can easily be compensated for to take advantage of the increased storage density.

Drive In Racking

Drive-In Racking

Using minimal space for access aisles and lanes, Drive In Pallet Racking provides a high density and space efficient pallet storage system.

With the first pallet into a lane being the last out, stock selectivity is restricted, but this system is particularly suitable when loads are delivered and dispatched in batches. Pallets are stored on runners in the depth of the racking and trucks enter the racks to deposit and retrieve loads.

Providing pallet storage at up to 11 metres, Drive-in Pallet Racking has unsurpassed structural strength and stability, with heavy duty frames the rails double bolt into each upright.

Dynamic Pallet Storage

Push Back Racking

Push Back Racking

Effectively utilising floor space, Dynamic Push back racking is amongst the most space and time-efficient pallet storage systems available.

Pallets are loaded in sequence onto wheeled carriers of differing heights and are pushed back along inclined steel guide channels to utilise the full depth of the rack.

Pallets can be stored up to four deep and when a load is retrieved the remaining pallets roll forward into position at the picking face.

Pallets are retrieved on a 'first-in, last-out' basis and with each product having a dedicated lane, Dynamic Push back racks are particularly useful in marshalling areas, and for long-term bulk storage and handling.

Pallet Live Racking (Live Storage)

Pallet Live Racking

Working on a first-in, first-out basis, Dynamic Live Storage provides extremely high levels of storage density in a given area.

Pallets are loaded onto dedicated lanes of inclined gravity rollers which are set at a fixed gradient. When a load is taken from the picking face, the next pallet rolls into position, with replenishment stock loaded at the opposite (upper) end of the lane.

Stock rotation is therefore automatic with the minimum of fork lift truck movements required to handle the flow of goods.

Carton Flow Racking

Carton Flow Racking

Carton live storage or 'flow racking' operates on the same principle as pallet live storage, but is used for smaller stock items which needs to be hand loaded / picked.

Live storage systems reduce order picking times and help minimise errors, as not only are items presented precisely at the picking face, but effective management of the throughput and stock levels of goods can also be easily maintained.

Specialised Storage Racks

Carpet Racking

Whilst providing the ideal means of storing palletised loads, the versatility of the Pallet Racking means large, bulky or simply awkward to store items can be accommodated using the most accessible and space-efficient methods.

Combinations of standard components and accessories with specialised 'bespoke' items create successful solutions to what may initially appear to be the most difficult of storage problems, such as carpet racking, furniture storage and coil / cable reel storage.

Raised storage platforms and 'multi tiered' racking systems also provide a cost-effective means of utilising the height of a building thereby maximising the storage capacity for a given floor area.
